AAP Alleges Cover-Up in Satya Niketan PG Death; Delhi Police Denies Claim
AAP accuses Delhi Police of hushing up a female student's death at a Satya Niketan PG; police say no new complaint has been filed.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday accused Delhi Police of concealing the circumstances surrounding the death of a female student at a paying guest accommodation in south Delhi's Satya Niketan area, even as the police said no fresh complaint had been lodged in the matter.
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, who visited the locality, said in a post on X that residents had told him a woman had died a few weeks earlier after falling from a PG under suspicious circumstances. He alleged that instead of ordering a fair probe, the police had sought to suppress the incident.
"If one of our daughters fell from a PG and died, the police should provide the information to establish under what circumstances she fell. Why is the police silent on the entire matter," he said.
DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel rejected the charge, stating that the force had received no new complaint. "We have already shared all the details. There is nothing new or additional. The details shared by us are factual and correct," he said.
The allegations follow the September 6 collapse of a five-storey building that housed a boys' hostel in Satya Niketan, which killed seven people. The AAP has since attacked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that RK Puram BJP MLA Anil Sharma and other party leaders run a "PG mafia" in the area and that authorities are shielding them.
In a separate post on X, Bharadwaj claimed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was operating like a mafia, alleging that properties of those who refuse to pay bribes are demolished to intimidate residents while no action is taken against those who pay. He cited an illegal PG allegedly owned by Sharma on Ring Road, claiming that documents show the legislator held only 230 square yards of land but encroached upon 600 square yards of government land to build the facility.
Sharma has dismissed the allegations and threatened to file a defamation case against AAP leaders. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi BJP.
