AAP Donations Fall 68% as BJD Declares Nil Contributions in EC Reports
AAP's declared donations dropped 68% to Rs 12.09 crore in 2025-26, while BJD reported nil contributions above Rs 20,000, per Election Commission filings.
The Aam Aadmi Party has declared contributions of Rs 12.09 crore for 2025-26, a fall of 68 per cent from the Rs 38.10 crore it reported a year earlier, according to its annual contribution report filed with the Election Commission.
Nearly the entire sum came from two donors. The Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited contributed Rs 5 crore each. Trident Ltd was founded by Rajinder Gupta, a Punjab-based billionaire who served as an AAP MP before joining the BJP earlier this year. The trust's own disclosure for 2025-26 was not yet available.
Smaller contributions included Rs 5 lakh from Jain Siddiqui and Associates and Rs 20,010 from Brilliant Study Centre. Ashutosh Ranka, a former AAP spokesperson who is now co-convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, donated Rs 21,100. The remaining donors were individuals.
The actual totals for all parties may be higher, since annual contribution reports are required to list only donations above Rs 20,000 each.
The Biju Janata Dal, which governed Odisha for 24 consecutive years until 2024, declared "nil" donations above the threshold. In the previous year it had reported Rs 60 crore, with Vedanta Ltd as its largest donor at Rs 25 crore.
Among other parties, the Telugu Desam Party received Rs 58.25 crore, of which Rs 45 crore came from the Delhi-based Prudent Electoral Trust and Rs 1.76 crore from companies. The YSRCP declared Rs 24.30 crore, led by Rs 10 crore from Chennai-based Goodwood Sanctuary Pvt Ltd and Rs 5 crore from NA Divine Habitat Pvt Ltd, also of Chennai.
Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) reported Rs 3.23 crore, including Rs 1 crore from the Prudent Electoral Trust, with several companies accounting for more than Rs 80 lakh.
The Asom Gana Parishad, a BJP ally, declared Rs 7.64 crore, of which Rs 5.18 crore came from the BJP's Assam unit. Two companies contributed Rs 35 lakh in tranches of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
The Election Commission has not yet made public the contribution reports of the BJP, the Congress and other national parties.
