AAP to Launch 2027 Punjab Campaign in Ludhiana After 8% DA Hike for Employees
AAP will kick off its 2027 Punjab election campaign in Ludhiana, capitalising on an 8% DA hike for about eight lakh employees and pensioners.
The Aam Aadmi Party will formally begin its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections on Saturday, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann releasing the party's election pamphlet in Ludhiana. The launch follows the state government's announcement of an 8 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance for roughly eight lakh government employees and pensioners.
Party leader Manish Sisodia said the Ludhiana event will mark the start of AAP's statewide political outreach ahead of the polls. The DA decision, paired with Mann's announcement of compulsory monthly meetings with employee representatives, is expected to give the party a platform to engage a constituency that has recently voiced grievances.
From September 20, AAP plans to roll out a door-to-door campaign involving around 2.68 lakh booth committee members, who will visit households to highlight the Mann government's work. Mann will lead the effort in Dhuri, his Assembly constituency. A membership drive will run alongside the outreach, aimed at strengthening the party's organisational base at the grassroots.
The timing sets up a contrast with the BJP, which launched its 'Drug-Free Punjab Yatra' in Pathankot on Friday under state president Nitin Nabin. With the BJP making the drug crisis a central plank of its early campaign, AAP is entering the field with a mix of governance messaging, employee outreach and booth-level mobilisation.
Within a day of each other, the two parties have moved from early positioning to visible ground activity, signalling that the contest for 2027 is gathering pace.
