AAP Turns Bhagat Singh Anniversary Into Wider Punjab Campaign
AAP's Jashan-e-Inquilab in Ludhiana marked Bhagat Singh's birth anniversary with youth, culture and a governance pitch, signalling a broader campaign ahead of 2027.
The Aam Aadmi Party's political messaging in Punjab is expanding beyond routine governance claims into a broader mobilisation built around state identity, youth, nationalism and the legacy of Bhagat Singh.
The shift was most visible in Ludhiana, where the state government organised 'Jashan-e-Inquilab' at Punjab Agricultural University to mark the revolutionary's birth anniversary. The programme brought together a large youth gathering with music, theatre and cultural performances, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann used the platform to present an extended account of his government's record.
Mann tied Bhagat Singh's legacy to his administration's work in education, healthcare, jobs, electricity, irrigation, women's welfare and the protection of Punjab's water. He also drew a contrast with earlier governments, accusing them of disregarding the ideals and sacrifices of the martyrs.
Several projects were cited as evidence of the government's commitment to preserving that legacy, including the naming of the Mohali airport after Bhagat Singh, a 30-foot statue at Nishan-e-Inquilab Plaza and a ₹52-crore heritage complex at Khatkar Kalan. Alongside these, the Chief Minister sought to link the martyr's ideals to his government's stated goal of building a more equal, educated and welfare-oriented Punjab.
Youth mobilisation, the anti-drug campaign, education, sports, the state's water and development are among the themes being raised at AAP events. The Bhagat Singh anniversary gave the party an opportunity to combine these with Punjab's emotional and historical connection to its most iconic revolutionary.
The event thus moved past a conventional commemorative function and took on the character of a political mobilisation, with the party projecting its governance record alongside a larger narrative about Punjab's identity and future. With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, AAP's messaging is increasingly taking the shape of a campaign in the making.
