Leaders across party lines welcomed IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman's return, praising his courage and dignity.
The return of Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Friday prompted a rare display of political unity, with leaders from across the spectrum welcoming him home and saluting his conduct.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, stating that the nation was proud of the pilot's exemplary courage. In a message on social media, he extended a warm welcome home to the Wing Commander.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also took to social media to express her pride in the pilot, commending his valour and grit. She specifically noted that he maintained his calm in the face of adversity.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah echoed these sentiments, saying the entire nation was proud of the pilot's courage and valour. He expressed gladness at his return and conveyed best wishes for his continued service to the nation and the IAF.
The Congress president also joined in the praise, stating that the pilot's dignity, poise, and bravery had made all of India proud. He welcomed him back with warmth and affection.
The unanimous praise for the pilot comes amid heightened tensions following the recent Balakot air strikes and the subsequent aerial engagement between Indian and Pakistani forces.
