Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, seen in over 500 films, dies at 75
Character actor Mushtaq Khan, a five-decade film veteran with more than 500 credits, has died at 75 following a cancer diagnosis.
Veteran character actor Mushtaq Khan, whose five-decade film career spanned more than 500 titles, died in Mumbai on Thursday evening after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 75.
According to his son Mohsin, the actor was admitted to Nanavati Hospital in the city's suburbs roughly a fortnight ago after complaining of stomach pain. It was during that hospital visit that doctors found he had cancer, and his condition deteriorated over the final days of his stay.
"He passed away due to cancer at Nanavati Hospital at around 7 p.m.," Mohsin said, adding that his father had shown no major health problems before the hospitalisation and had, in fact, been shooting for the debut film of the son of Shera, Salman Khan's bodyguard.
Khan built a long and prolific career largely on supporting roles, appearing in films such as "Aashiqui", "Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin", "Saathi", "Sadak", "Junoon", "Gunaah", "Sir", "Gadar", "Welcome" and "Gadar 2". His work in these and other projects made him a familiar face to audiences across generations of Hindi cinema.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His funeral is scheduled to be held on Friday.
