Adilabad district police have seized 385 ganja plants from two agricultural fields in Potam Loddi village, located in Adilabad rural mandal, as part of an intensified drive against illegal cannabis cultivation. The confiscated plants are valued at approximately ₹38.50 lakh.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said cases have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against two alleged cultivators, Mesram Gangaram Patel and Mesram Nagu. Both are absconding, and police teams are working to trace and arrest them.
The SP cautioned that stringent legal action would follow against anyone cultivating cannabis or participating in the illegal trade.
To encourage public cooperation, Mahajan said cash rewards would be offered to people who share credible information about ganja cultivation and related illegal activity. He assured that the identity of informants would remain confidential and said information can be passed on via WhatsApp at 8712659973.
Mahajan also said a recommendation has been made to stop government scheme benefits for cultivators on 250 acres of agricultural land where cannabis was found to have been grown so far.
