Ahmedabad Woman Killed by Father, Brother in Staged Accident Over Viral Video

A 22-year-old Ahmedabad woman was allegedly killed by her father and brother in an honour killing, staged as a hit-and-run after a viral video.

A 22-year-old woman in Ahmedabad was allegedly murdered by her father and brother in an honour killing, with the crime staged to look like a road accident. The victim, identified as Sofia, a former hospital receptionist, died nearly a month ago after being struck on the head with a hammer.

Police investigation into what was initially reported as a hit-and-run revealed the true sequence of events. On the night of August 12, Sofia's father, Mohmand Farooq, and her brother, 38-year-old Mohmand Habil, took her for a ride. During the trip, Habil diverted to a secluded dirt path near Gheljipura village, where he allegedly struck his sister on the head three times with a hammer.

The father-son duo then transported Sofia's body back to the main road and damaged the motorcycle to simulate a high-speed collision. Habil subsequently reported to authorities that a speeding vehicle had hit their motorcycle from behind, claiming the impact caused his sister's severe head injuries while leaving him with only bruises.

Sofia was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.

The investigation revealed that the family harboured deep resentment after a video involving Sofia went viral approximately three months ago. Fearing social humiliation, the father and brother allegedly conspired to kill her to protect the family's reputation. Police stated that Habil concealed an iron hammer in his trousers before the ride.

Both accused are currently in custody and face murder charges.
