AIADMK fields Kanitha Sampath, K. Bhanumathi for Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced Kanitha Sampath and K. Bhanumathi as the party's candidates for the October 6 bypolls in Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced its candidates for the byelections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies, scheduled for October 6.
The party's general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, named former legislator Kanitha Sampath for Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district and K. Bhanumathi for Dharapuram in Tiruppur district.
Ms. Sampath is a member of the AIADMK general council and serves as joint secretary of the party's women's wing. Ms. Bhanumathi is joint secretary of the Tiruppur suburban east district women's wing and a former member of the 12th Ward of the district panchayat council.
Both constituencies are reserved and were vacated after former AIADMK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam) and P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram) resigned on May 25, shortly before joining the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam the same day. The two had won the seats in the April 23 Assembly elections on the AIADMK's 'Two Leaves' symbol.
Ms. Kumaravel and Ms. Sathyabama are seeking re-election in the October 6 bypolls and were named by the TVK as its candidates on Thursday.
