AISA seeks FIR over alleged death threats to national president in Uttar Pradesh

The All India Students' Association (AISA) has written to the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, seeking an FIR over alleged death threats to its national president, Neha Bora, who is touring the State as part of the organisation's 'GenZ Rising' campaign.

In a complaint dated September 15, AISA general secretary Prasenjeet Kumar said a number of messages carrying explicit threats of violence, along with abusive and objectionable language, had been sent to one of the organisation's official contact numbers. The sender also reportedly forwarded several voice notes containing threatening statements.

According to the complaint, one of the voice messages stated that "her death is certain", which led the student body to flag concerns about Ms. Bora's safety while she travels through Uttar Pradesh.

AISA said the messages constituted a serious threat to its national president and alleged that they were aimed at intimidating a young leader engaged in grassroots student mobilisation.

The organisation has asked the State police chief to register a first information report without delay, trace and identify the person using the number from which the messages were sent, and preserve and examine the call and message records as well as the voice notes. It has also sought legal action under the relevant provisions of law.

Screenshots of the messages and the voice notes were submitted along with the complaint. AISA has further requested measures to ensure Ms. Bora's safety and security and to prevent any further threats or acts of violence.

In a separate statement, the organisation condemned the alleged threats and said it would press ahead with the 'GenZ Rising' campaign despite the incident. It called for action against those responsible and urged the authorities to ensure the safety of its leaders and activists travelling across Uttar Pradesh.
