Ajmal Files Nagaon Nomination, Vows to Work for All Communities

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has filed his nomination for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, ending days of speculation about his candidature. Speaking after the filing, he said he was confident of winning the seat and returning to Parliament.

Ajmal's decision to contest the bypoll follows his defeat in the Dhubri Assembly seat in the recent Assam elections, a constituency he had long represented.

The AIUDF leader sought to project a broad appeal, saying his work would not be limited to any one community. He said he would work for minorities as well as the majority, noting that while Muslims face numerous issues, the majority community too has problems that should not be ignored.

Outlining his priorities, Ajmal said education would be at the top of his list, followed by healthcare and matters related to floods and erosion. He said river embankments and other major concerns would also be taken up on a priority basis.

Asked about his prospects, Ajmal said the situation was favourable and that there was a new sense of hope among voters. He added that people would soon see him in Parliament.

On the Congress, Ajmal was sharply critical, saying the party in Assam today was no different from the BJP. He argued that voting for the Congress and the BJP amounted to the same thing, and urged voters not to back the Congress.
