Ajith and Vijay reunite at Silverstone, three decades after their only film together
Ajith Kumar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay met at Silverstone on September 12, reviving memories of their lone on-screen pairing in Rajavin Parvaiyile (1995).
A meeting between Ajith Kumar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay at the Silverstone racing circuit in London has drawn wide attention online, recalling a rare on-screen pairing from the early years of both men's careers.
The two met on Saturday, September 12, at the Le Mans Cup race in which Ajith was competing. Vijay, a former actor who now holds the state's top political office, was invited to wave the ceremonial green flag for the event.
Such encounters between the two are uncommon, and the moment carried a sense of nostalgia for their followers, who have long framed the actors as rivals at the box office.
Their paths first crossed on screen in Rajavin Parvaiyile, released in 1995, when both were young performers still establishing themselves. The romantic drama, directed by Janaki Soundar, cast them as best friends. Indraja and Gayathri Sasthiri played the female leads, with Vadivukkarasi, Janagaraj, Sathyapriya, Vennira Aadai Moorthy, Vadivelu and Charuhasan among the supporting cast. Ilaiyaraaja composed the music.
Despite repeated attempts by filmmakers over the years to bring the two together again, Rajavin Parvaiyile remains their sole collaboration. The film returned to Tamil Nadu theatres on 6 January 2023, shortly before Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu arrived in cinemas at the same time.
Nearly thirty years after that shared screen, the Silverstone meeting marks a full-circle moment for two figures whose careers have since taken very different directions.
