Akhanda Godavari project works inspected ahead of 2027 Pushkarams
Officials reviewed the ₹94.44 crore Akhanda Godavari project, which includes Havelock Bridge beautification and Bridge Lanka development, targeting completion before Godavari Pushkarams 2027.
Special Chief Secretary for Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture S.S. Rawat inspected the ongoing works of the Akhanda Godavari project in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The Ministry of Culture has released ₹99.44 crore for the project under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment. The initiative, taken up at a cost of ₹94.44 crore, covers the beautification of the Havelock Bridge across the Godavari and the development of Bridge Lanka, an island in the river.
As part of the bridge works, 18 of the 57 spans of the Havelock Bridge are being developed to house a glass bridge, a rail museum, a food court and an aquarium tunnel.
East Godavari District Collector Kirthi Chekuri and Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rahul Meena said Bridge Lanka would be developed into a tourist attraction, with facilities including boating, a yoga centre and a wellness centre.
A.P. Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director P. Ravi Subhash and other officials were present during the inspection. The project is scheduled to be commissioned before the Godavari Pushkarams in 2027.
