Akka to Premiere on Netflix on October 30, Marking Keerthy Suresh's Streaming Debut
Netflix's revenge thriller Akka, starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, premieres October 30, nearly three years after production began.
Yash Raj Entertainment's revenge thriller series Akka will arrive on Netflix on October 30, closing a gap of nearly three years since the project entered production in November 2023.
The period gangster drama is set in the 1980s and unfolds in a fictional South Indian city built around a matriarchal society. Its narrative centres on two gangster queens whose rule is unsettled by an outsider who introduces an unfamiliar threat, pulling the once-dominant sisterhood into a cycle of violence and survival.
Keerthy Suresh, a leading name in South Indian cinema, makes her streaming debut with the series and appears opposite Radhika Apte. Tanvi Azmi is also part of the cast in a key role. The show is directed by debutant Dharmaraj Shetty and is described as a large-scale thriller focused on powerful women navigating a world shaped by violence, power and survival.
Akka is being positioned as Yash Raj Entertainment's biggest tentpole streaming project so far. It also marks the third collaboration between the banner — the streaming arm of Aditya Chopra's production house — and Netflix India, following The Railway Men, which featured R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu and Babil Khan, and the investigative drama Mandala Murders, starring Vaani Kapoor, Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Surveen Chawla.
The two partners are set to extend their association with Tunnel Men, a thriller based on the 2023 Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation. That project will be directed by Ambiecka Pandit and Manan Rawat and is scheduled to begin filming early next year.
