Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Alla Nani dies of cardiac arrest at 56

Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, died of cardiac arrest in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. He was 56.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said he was deeply shocked by the sudden death, describing it as heartbreaking that Mr. Alla Nani had passed away so young, and conveyed his condolences to the family.

Born in Sanivarapu Peta in Eluru on December 30, 1969, Mr. Alla Nani entered electoral politics by winning the Eluru Assembly seat for the Congress in 2004 and again in 2009. He left the party in 2012 and joined the YSR Congress Party the following year. After losing Eluru in 2014, he was elected to the Legislative Council in 2017 and regained the Assembly seat in 2019.

He served as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education from June 2019 to April 2022, holding the health portfolio through the COVID-19 pandemic until a Cabinet reshuffle. In 2024 he lost Eluru by more than 62,000 votes, resigned from the YSRCP on August 9 that year while announcing his exit from politics, and joined the Telugu Desam Party in February 2025.

YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in whose Cabinet Mr. Alla Nani served, said he was deeply shocked and shaken by the death. He recalled his three terms as Eluru MLA and his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister, calling the loss irreparable for the family and for his admirers.

Former Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy also condoled the death, saying his dedicated public service and contribution to the state would always be remembered, and extended condolences to his family, supporters and admirers.

IT Minister Nara Lokesh said the news had caused profound shock and remembered Mr. Alla Nani as a leader who stayed away from controversies and dealt amicably with everyone.
