Amaal Mallik Draws Line on Family Remarks Amid 'Main Hoon Hero Tera' Credit Row

Composer Amaal Mallik has issued a sharp response to social media users targeting his family amid the continuing discussion over the credits of the 2015 song 'Main Hoon Hero Tera'.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Mallik set out a clear boundary between criticism of his work and remarks about his relatives. "A statutory warning to the entire audience on each & every social platform of the world… Not a word about my family will be tolerated," he wrote, adding that those who target him may do so freely but that he would publicly name anyone who speaks against his family.

He also said that if anyone in the film industry were to stand against him or his family without cause, he would respond. Invoking popular cinema references, he described himself as the Shah Rukh Khan of music while comparing his anger to that of Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, and asserted that he had stood by his father, Daboo Malik, and the family, and would continue to do so.

Addressing the song's credits, Mallik explained the sequence of its creation. He said his brother Armaan Malik sang the main version, which made it possible to present the track to actor-producer Salman Khan and director Nikhil Advani. Mallik composed it and Kumaar wrote the lyrics, after which it was approved and Salman Khan recorded his own version. Mallik acknowledged that the song's reach owes much to Salman Khan's face and voice, but questioned why the effort behind creating a song is often left out of celebration posts year after year.

The controversy began after Salman Khan Films shared a post marking ten years of 'Main Hoon Hero Tera' without initially mentioning Mallik as the composer. He called out the omission, and the post was later edited to include his credit. The episode drew criticism online, with some users calling him ungrateful towards Salman Khan, prompting both Amaal and Armaan Malik to defend his position publicly.
