Amazon Halts 21 Air Operations After Fatal Miami Cargo Crash (2026-09-14)

Amazon has paused its operations with Miami-based cargo carrier 21 Air, the operator of the Amazon-branded plane that crashed in Miami last week, killing five people.

In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the company had spent time supporting the investigation and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident before deciding to suspend work with the operator of Flight 7598. She added that Amazon will continue to assist the investigation and those affected.

The crash occurred when an Amazon Prime Air cargo flight overran a runway while landing at Miami International Airport shortly before 2 p.m. EDT. The aircraft struck multiple vehicles on the ground.

The plane was a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter that had operated as a passenger jet for various airlines between 1994 and 2015, according to flight tracking service Flightradar24.

The National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating, said last week that the pilots considered aborting the landing after touchdown, citing flight data recorder evidence. The NTSB also noted that one pilot warned they were flying "too fast" just over a minute before touching down on the runway they overran.

21 Air said in its own statement that it remains focused on supporting the families and loved ones affected, and is working closely with the NTSB and partners including Amazon as the investigation continues. The carrier expressed confidence in its safety policies, procedures and training.
