Four Arrested in Ambur for Selling Newborn to Bengaluru Couple

The Ambur Town police in Tirupattur district have arrested four individuals in connection with the illegal sale of a nine-day-old baby boy. The infant was reportedly sold to a couple from Bengaluru for ₹1 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Rahmatullah (42), his wife R. Aushma (37), and the buyers, Shameen Taj (30) and Syed Akbar Basha (35), residents of Bengaluru.

According to the initial investigation, Aushma gave birth to the child on August 14 at the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. The family, which has been living in Ambur for several years, reportedly felt unable to care for a fourth child as Rahmatullah was unemployed.

Police said that certain brokers, who are currently absconding, were aware of the family's financial distress and facilitated the transaction. Rahmatullah was reportedly aware of the deal, and the baby was handed over to the Bengaluru couple.

The matter came to light when hospital authorities sought to conduct a routine check-up on the newborn. The couple's reluctance to bring the infant to the government hospital raised suspicions, prompting the authorities to alert the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Tirupattur.

Acting on a complaint filed by the CWC, the Ambur Town police registered a case. The Bengaluru couple was traced, and the infant was safely rescued. A detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
