Amrit Bharat 3.0: First trainset with AC and non-AC coaches rolls out of ICF
The first Amrit Bharat 3.0 trainset has rolled out from ICF, Chennai, with 22 coaches including AC, sleeper, and general classes.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has rolled out the first trainset of the Amrit Bharat Express 3.0, marking a significant step in the evolution of Indian Railways' affordable travel initiative. The new trainset is notable for including both air-conditioned and non-AC coaches, a departure from the earlier versions of the service.
The 22-coach trainset comprises six Third AC, two Second AC, one First AC, six Sleeper, four General, one Pantry, one Power Car, and one Divyangjan-cum-Guard Brake Van. A senior Railway official confirmed that the trainset has been dispatched from ICF, and the Railway Board will decide the route for its inaugural run.
The design of the Amrit Bharat 3.0 builds on the experience gained from the 1.0 and 2.0 versions. Launched in 2023, the Amrit Bharat Express was conceived to provide a high-quality travel experience at affordable prices for passengers in the lower and lower-middle income groups. Currently, around 60 Amrit Bharat Express services are operational across the Indian Railways network, all of which feature non-AC coaches.
According to the national transporter, the new coaches feature a refreshed interior colour scheme, with coordinated shades applied to PVC flooring, seat and berth rexine, snack tables, curtains, and lavatory areas. The Ministry of Railways has stated that all materials used in the coaches comply with HL3 fire safety standards, ensuring a high level of passenger safety while also improving visual appeal. The new colour scheme is intended to give the coaches a modern and uniform look, with a focus on durability and ease of maintenance.
