Punjab Police Extradites Gangster Amrit Dalam from Moldova
Fugitive criminal Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, an operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, has been extradited from Moldova, Punjab Police said.
Punjab Police on Saturday said that fugitive criminal Amritpal Singh, known by the alias Amrit Dalam, has been extradited from the Republic of Moldova. Mr. Dalam is described as a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang.
The extradition was carried out with the assistance of central agencies, the police said. Mr. Dalam is wanted in connection with multiple cases, including murder, attempt to murder, offences under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, the Arms Act and narcotics laws, among others.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yaday called the development the first-ever extradition secured by the state police from a European country, describing it as a significant milestone in the fight against organised crime and a breakthrough against transnational criminal networks.
According to the DGP, the extradition followed "Operation Eastern Reach", a six-month intelligence-led international manhunt. He said the operation relied on sustained surveillance and close coordination between the Anti-Gangster Task Force and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell, working alongside central agencies and international partners.
Mr. Yaday commended the two units for their efforts and thanked the authorities in Moldova and Azerbaijan, the International Police Cooperation Unit, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs and other central agencies for their role in the international cooperation that led to the extradition.
