Amritsar Traffic Cop Critically Injured After Being Struck by Car During Chase

A Punjab Police ASI was seriously injured after a car hit him during a motorcycle apprehension attempt in Amritsar. Investigation is ongoing.

A Punjab Police officer is in critical condition after being struck by a car during a traffic operation in Amritsar on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Lawrence Road, a busy thoroughfare, while personnel were attempting to apprehend a motorcyclist.

The injured officer has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pawan Kumar. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Medical officials have described his condition as serious.

Visuals from the scene, which have since circulated widely, show police personnel trying to stop a motorcycle. In the footage, ASI Kumar is seen stepping forward as part of the effort when a car approaching from behind hits him. The force of the impact threw him onto the road, leaving him injured.

Bystanders and fellow officers immediately rushed to his aid and arranged for his transport to the hospital.

Following the incident, police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events. Officials are reviewing video footage and other evidence collected from the spot. Efforts are also underway to identify the driver of the car involved and to understand the circumstances that led to the collision.

Authorities are expected to record statements from those present and may examine CCTV footage from cameras installed along Lawrence Road to reconstruct the events leading up to and following the accident.
