Amy Ryan Joins Emilia Jones in 'The Retrievals' Series Adaptation

Amy Ryan will star opposite Emilia Jones in 'The Retrievals', a series based on the Peabody-winning podcast about IVF patients at Yale.

Amy Ryan is set to star opposite Emilia Jones in the upcoming series The Retrievals, a drama adapted from the Peabody-winning New York Times podcast by Susan Burton.

The series centres on a group of IVF patients who band together to take on Yale University after they were subjected to egg retrieval procedures without anaesthesia. The situation arose because a nurse at the Yale Fertility Centre diverted fentanyl and replaced it with saline.

Ryan will portray Carla Russo, a veteran nurse at the clinic who pleads guilty to diverting large quantities of the drug and diluting it. Jones plays Gabby Clemente, one of the patients affected, who goes on to lead a landmark legal battle against the university.

The project is written and directed by Metzler, who also executive produces through her Quiet Coyote banner. She is joined as executive producers by her Maid and Sirens collaborators Colin McKenna and LuckyChap. Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie serve as executive producers for LuckyChap, with Caitlin Roper and podcast writer Burton also executive producing.

Lila Neugebauer, who directed an episode each of Maid and Sirens, will reunite with Metzler to direct the pilot and executive produce.

For Ryan, an Oscar nominee for Gone Baby Gone, the role marks her first as a series regular. Her television work includes major recurring parts on The Wire, The Office, Only Murders in the Building and, most recently, Apple TV's Sugar. She will next appear in Tom McCarthy's A Statement, which is scheduled to premiere at the New York Film Festival.
