Anant Nag to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024; PM Modi Leads Tributes
Anant Nag has been named the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024 recipient, with PM Narendra Modi praising his decades of versatile performances.
Veteran actor Anant Nag will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, the Government of India announced on Wednesday. The honour, decided on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, recognises his contribution to Indian cinema and a cinematic journey that has inspired generations.
The award will be presented at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for September 22, 2026, in Kevadia, Gujarat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor, describing the recognition as richly deserved. In a post on X, he said Anant Nag's effortless performances, remarkable versatility and brilliance have left a very strong mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema. The Prime Minister added that in whichever role the actor has played, he brought rare depth and authenticity, calling him a truly distinguished artist.
Anant Nag is a widely respected figure in Kannada cinema, with a career spanning several decades and a body of work that has earned him recognition across generations of viewers. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest honour in the field of cinema, is presented annually for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
