Phone Row Sparks Clash at Andhra Nursing Hostel; NE Students Relocated
A missing phone sparked a clash at a Kakinada nursing hostel between local and NE students. Officials intervened, recovered the phone, and shifted students to safe facilities.
A minor disagreement over a missing mobile phone at a nursing college hostel in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, escalated into a physical clash between local Telugu students and students from Nagaland and Manipur on Saturday.
The incident occurred at the girls' hostel of S K College of Nursing. District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad and Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav intervened on Sunday morning, meeting with the students and recovering the missing phone.
As a precaution, the administration temporarily moved students from the Northeastern states to a nearby secure facility, while local students were shifted to a separate location.
"A minor dispute between two students has been fully resolved, and the situation is completely under control," Collector Prasad said, adding that the misunderstanding arose from a theft allegation, but the phone has been returned to its owner.
Local police officials, including the circle inspector and sub-inspectors from the women's police station, along with the district medical and health officer, visited the site and spoke with students from both groups to resolve the matter amicably.
Collector Prasad refuted social media claims about theft of certificates, suspension of fee payments, or expulsion of students, calling them baseless. He instructed the college management to improve hostel facilities and promote a friendly campus environment.
SP Madhav urged the public not to share or believe exaggerated social media reports. The administration assured parents that all out-of-state students are safe and that their security remains a top priority.
