Andhra Pradesh Yet to Release Dasara Funds for Kanaka Durga Temple

The Andhra Pradesh government has not released funds for the Dasara festivities at the Kanaka Durga temple, despite the festival having been accorded State-festival status nearly a decade ago.
A government order, GO 3032, issued in 2015, declared Dasara festivities a State festival. The order envisaged that the departments concerned would earmark funds for conducting State festivals.
However, that provision has not translated into financial support for the temple. Instead, temple authorities have been meeting the expenditure incurred by government departments in connection with the festivities.
The situation highlights a gap between the declared status of the festival and the funding mechanism envisaged under the 2015 order. While the government order laid down that departments would set aside money for State festivals, the costs have effectively been borne by the temple.
The development raises questions about the implementation of GO 3032 and the financial burden placed on temple authorities for an event recognised as a State festival.
