IMD Issues Orange Alert for Six Andhra Districts as Rain Brings Respite

A low-pressure zone over the North Bay of Bengal brought rain across Andhra Pradesh, with the IMD issuing an orange alert for six districts on Friday.

A low-pressure zone over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh has brought rain to several parts of Andhra Pradesh, offering relief from the recent spell of scorching heat.

Anakapalli district recorded widespread rainfall on Thursday, while many other areas of the State received light to moderate showers. The wet spell is expected to continue until Saturday.

According to real-time data from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Thallur in Prakasam district logged the day's highest rainfall of 38.85 mm as of 6 p.m. on Thursday. Darlapudi in Anakapalli district followed with 37.5 mm, while Sabbavaram, Paravada and Vooderu, also in Anakapalli, recorded 34.5 mm. Gandhavaram in Anakapalli received 34 mm, Tadepalli in Guntur district 31 mm, and Vijayawada in NTR district 15 mm.

Light showers were also reported in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, Polavaram, Srikakulam, NTR, Palnadu, Krishna, Markapuram and Guntur districts till 6 p.m.

The India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, has issued an orange alert for Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari and West Godavari districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places on Friday.

Other coastal districts may see light to moderate showers, and Rayalaseema could receive isolated light rain.

Squally winds with speeds of 40 kmph to 50 kmph are very likely along the North Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday. An advisory has been issued asking fishermen of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh not to venture into the sea that day.

A yellow alert will remain in force on Saturday for Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur and Bapatla districts, with isolated heavy rainfall expected. No alerts have been issued for Sunday.
