Andhra Pradesh Lifts Suspension of Two IPS Officers in Actor Arrest Case

The Andhra Pradesh government has revoked the suspension of two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni, who were among five policemen suspended last year in connection with the arrest of actor Kadambari Jethwani and her parents.
The revocation, however, is without prejudice to the disciplinary and criminal proceedings that remain pending against the officers. This means the legal and departmental actions initiated over the incident will continue independently.
On September 15, 2024, the state government had suspended five police personnel, including the three IPS officers, for arresting Jethwani and her parents without proper verification. The move came after scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the arrests, which were deemed to have been carried out without following due procedure.
The latest order applies to two of the three IPS officers, while the status of the third suspended IPS officer and the two non-IPS personnel was not specified in the official communication. The development marks a partial rollback of the punitive action taken earlier, even as the officers remain subject to ongoing inquiry.
