Andhra Pradesh Posts Best-Ever Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Showing
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed urban air-quality performance and urged Collectors to pursue time-bound pollution-control measures.
Andhra Pradesh has recorded its strongest showing yet in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan (SVS) 2026, with eight of the State's 13 non-attainment cities improving their national positions, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said while reviewing the performance of Urban Local Bodies.
The review took place during the Collectors' Conference at the Secretariat. Mr. Naidu acknowledged the gains made by several cities and asked district officials to step up time-bound measures to bring down pollution levels further.
Eluru emerged as the standout performer, climbing from 31st place in 2025 to fourth nationally in 2026. Guntur advanced from sixth to second, Vijayawada moved from 13th to eighth and Nellore rose from 18th to ninth. Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Chittoor and Anantapur also registered progress.
The State's overall tally included five national and State-level awards, carrying total prize money of ₹1.05 crore. Guntur took second rank nationally in the city-level Category-II, earning ₹25 lakh, while Vijayawada's Ward-60 secured second place nationally in the ward-level category, receiving ₹30 lakh.
Mr. Naidu instructed the Collectors to identify pollution sources specific to each city along with gaps in implementation. He underlined that clean air is central to public health, quality of life and sustainable urban development, and directed officials to work towards improving the liveability index of all cities in the State.
