Anjali Patil's 'Selvi' to Premiere at Busan International Film Festival

National Award-winning actor Anjali Patil's film 'Selvi', which she leads and produces, has been selected for screening at the 31st Busan International Film Festival in October.

The film is set within the world of home-care workers and examines themes of care, migration, friendship, guilt, exhaustion, and the resolve to keep moving forward.

Written by Sailesh and shot by cinematographer Bargav Sridhar, the story draws from their observations of the migrant nurses who cared for Sridhar's mother during a prolonged illness. These women, hailing from smaller towns in Tamil Nadu, lived in modest hostels while working in homes vastly different from their own. Sailesh, himself a migrant from Coimbatore to Chennai, connected with this tension immediately.

Patil described the project as a way to reclaim creative independence for stories that require patience. She called it a personal, intimate look at ordinary healthcare workers who dedicate their lives to others while their own lives quietly recede. She expressed pride in the Busan premiere, calling it a milestone, and noted the team's intention to bring the film back home to the people it truly belongs to.

'Selvi' is co-produced by the Red Sea Fund, an initiative of the Red Sea International Film Festival, and has received support from Hong Kong Asia Film Financing.
