Veteran social activist Anna Hazare was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bombay Hospital in Mumbai on Monday after his health condition worsened. The 87-year-old was initially receiving treatment at a medical facility near his native village of Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra.
Medical sources said Hazare is suffering from a severe viral infection and dehydration. He was shifted to the Mumbai hospital for advanced care after doctors noted complications, including the need for kidney function assessments.
Hazare is under the care of Dr. Gautam Bhansali and remains under constant observation. Detailed diagnostic tests are underway, and a treatment plan will be finalised based on the reports. His vital signs are being closely monitored by the medical team.
Supporters and well-wishers across the country have expressed concern and are hoping for his speedy recovery. An official update on his health is expected once the full diagnostic evaluation is completed.
Hazare is widely recognised for his anti-corruption campaigns and his role in transforming Ralegan Siddhi into a model village through watershed development, afforestation, and rural self-reliance initiatives. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1992 for his social work.
He rose to national prominence through hunger strikes demanding the Right to Information Act and the Jan Lokpal Bill. In recent months, he had also backed student protests and called for accountability in government, including demanding the resignation of a Union minister over exam paper leak irregularities.
