Anupam Kher honours Ashok Singhal on birth centenary, reflects on 'Shri Rambhoomi' role
Anupam Kher paid tribute to Ashok Singhal on his birth centenary and spoke about playing the late VHP leader in the film 'Shri Rambhoomi'.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has paid tribute to Ashok Singhal on the late Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader's birth centenary, recalling his role in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement and his own experience of portraying him on screen.
In a post on Instagram, Kher said he offered his heartfelt respects to Singhal, describing him as someone who dedicated his life to the nation, religion and culture. Singhal's contribution to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement, he added, will always be remembered.
Kher also spoke about essaying Singhal in the upcoming film 'Shri Rambhoomi'. "It is an honour for me to portray the role of Ashok Singhal ji in the film 'Shri Rambhoomi'," he said, adding that he had worked to understand the leader's personality and bring it alive on screen, and hoped he had done justice to it. He urged audiences to watch the film after its release and signed off with "Jai Shri Ram!".
The actor wrapped up shooting for 'Shri Rambhoomi' in August. He had begun filming in July, when he shared a video from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
Meanwhile, the birth centenary year ceremony for Singhal was inaugurated on Sunday at a grand event at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, organised by the VHP and the Ashok Singhal Foundation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the chief guest, led the tributes to Singhal, whose life was devoted to Indian culture, spiritual awakening, the organisation of Hindu society and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. The ceremony honoured his inspiring life, far-sighted thought and contribution to the nation and society.
