Kurnool to get High Court bench, says Andhra Minister

Andhra Pradesh Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to establishing a High Court bench in Kurnool, urging protesting lawyers to exercise restraint.

The Minister's statement comes in response to demonstrations by a section of the legal community, who have expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in the process. Some advocates have also voiced concerns that the government might opt for a camp circuit bench or a mobile bench instead of a permanent one.

Speaking at the 'Two Years of Trust – Development and Welfare' programme in Kurnool's 10th Ward on Friday, Mr. Bharath clarified that the bench will indeed be set up in the city. He stated that he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who assured him of the government's resolve. The Minister added that IT Minister Nara Lokesh has also provided clarity on the issue.

Acknowledging the legal procedures and protocols involved in establishing a High Court bench, Mr. Bharath appealed to the advocates to avoid hasty decisions. He also criticised the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for failing to fulfil its promises on this matter, asserting that the current alliance government is steadily implementing its commitments.

In a separate appeal, the Minister announced that eligible beneficiaries would soon be able to apply for pensions. He also urged residents and pandal organisers to use small clay idols for Ganesh Chaturthi, citing limited water availability in immersion ponds due to the rainfall deficit. He suggested that immersion of smaller idols requires less water and can even be performed at home if necessary.
