Child Rights Panel Orders Probe into Pregnancy of Class IX Girl at Andhra Tribal School
APSCPCR has ordered an inquiry into the pregnancy of a Class IX girl at a Tribal Welfare Residential School in Polavaram district; three staff were suspended and the hostel cook arrested under POCSO.
The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has ordered a detailed inquiry into the pregnancy of a Class IX student at a Tribal Welfare Residential School in Polavaram district.
The girl was found to be two months pregnant and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to APSCPCR member Vundavalli Gandhi Babu, the school principal, the hostel warden and a teacher have been suspended in connection with the case. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, against the hostel cook, who has been arrested.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr. Gandhi Babu said a thorough inquiry had been ordered into the sexual abuse of the inmate and that the Commission would visit the institution soon.
He also held discussions with officials from the Women Development and Child Welfare Department, the Tribal Welfare Department and the Rampachodavaram Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), and enquired about the victim's health condition.
The Commission has directed the officials concerned to ensure the girl's safety and to take action against those responsible.
