Three Chennai men held in Arakkonam with 600 Tapentadol tablets
Arakkonam town police arrested three Chennai residents carrying 600 Tapentadol tablets near the railway station; they were remanded to Vellore Central Prison.
Three men were arrested by the Arakkonam town police on Saturday after 600 Tapentadol tablets were found in their possession near the railway station in Arakkonam.
The accused were identified as K. Subash, 22, V. Elango, 26, and B. Saravanan, 22, all residents of Chennai.
According to the police, the arrests followed a tip-off received by Ranipet Superintendent of Police P. Sibin, on the basis of which special teams were formed to carry out surprise checks at public places, including bus termini, railway stations and isolated buildings across the district.
A special team conducting a routine check near the Arakkonam railway station intercepted the suspects and searched them and their bags, recovering the narcotic tablets.
Initial investigation indicated that the group had placed an order for the tablets with pharmacies in Mumbai, from where they were sent to them by courier.
Police said the three were on their way to the railway station to travel to Chennai, where they intended to sell the tablets in retail.
A case has been registered in connection with the seizure. The arrested men were lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore, and further investigation is under way.
