Argentina's 2025/26 Corn Crop Set to Hit Record 70.5 Million Tonnes

Argentina's 2025/26 corn harvest is now projected to reach a record 70.5 million metric tonnes, according to the Rosario grain exchange (BCR). The revised figure marks an increase from the 68 million tonnes forecast last month, driven by an upward adjustment in the estimated area sown with the crop.

Harvesting is currently 75% complete, a pace that trails last year's progress. The exchange attributed the slowdown to an unusually wet and warm July, which has hampered fieldwork across key growing regions.

Argentina holds the position of the world's third-largest corn exporter, making the size of its crop a significant factor in global grain markets.

The BCR also released its initial projections for the 2026/27 season, covering both corn and soybeans. Planting for these crops is scheduled to begin in September and October, respectively.

For the upcoming season, the exchange forecasts corn production at 66 million tonnes, reflecting a projected 7.3% year-on-year decline in planted area, equivalent to a reduction of 600,000 hectares. Meanwhile, soybean output for 2026/27 is estimated at 48 million tonnes.

The BCR noted that the El Niño weather pattern is expected to provide adequate moisture, preventing water shortages during the planting and early development phases of the 2026/27 crops.
