Armed Assault on Manipur Village Leaves Three Dead, Four Injured
Three villagers, including two women, were killed and four injured when armed men attacked N. Teikhang village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district.
At least three villagers were killed and four others critically injured in an armed attack on N. Teikhang village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Monday morning, according to the Twilang Area Kuki Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Working Committee.
The incident occurred around 8 am when a group of approximately 50 heavily armed men allegedly entered the village, opened fire on civilians, and set several houses ablaze. The village is situated along the fringe of the Imphal-Tipaimukh Road, about seven kilometres from Chalwu.
The CSO alleged that the attackers were cadres of the NSCN (IM) and its proxy force, ZUF (K). This claim could not be independently verified.
The deceased were identified as Tingneichin Lhouvum (40), Hoineneing Lhoujem (21), and Lamtinthang Lhoujem (36). The injured were named as Nemneichong Lhoujem (50), Seilun Lhoujem (70), Deilhing Haokip (55), and Kamtinsei Chongloi (38).
The attack triggered panic among residents, who fled their homes as firing continued. The CSO condemned the incident as an "unprovoked and barbaric attack" on civilians and urged authorities to deploy adequate security personnel in the area. It also called for safe passage and immediate medical assistance for the injured being transported to hospital.
Security forces were deployed to secure the affected village and prevent further escalation. The attack comes amid heightened tensions and a series of armed incidents along the IT Road and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district.
Separately, Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav chaired a high-level security review meeting in Kohima, directing agencies to maintain heightened vigil along border areas. The meeting, attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and senior officials, reviewed border management and security preparedness in view of developments in Manipur.
