Tamil Nadu shifts two senior IPS officers to Vacancy Reserve amid POCSO complaint row
Senior IPS officers A. Arun and N. Kannan have been moved to Vacancy Reserve, days after scrutiny over the Chennai police's handling of a POCSO Act complaint.
Two senior Indian Police Service officers in Tamil Nadu have been moved out of their posts and placed in Vacancy Reserve (VR) without fresh postings, a government order has said.
The officers are A. Arun, a former Chennai Police Commissioner who was serving as Additional Director General of Police and Director of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, and N. Kannan, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City. Both have been placed on compulsory wait.
The reshuffle comes against the backdrop of controversy over the city police's alleged inaction on a complaint filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The complaint names Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani and an associate, Shanti.
Ranjan Kumar, president of the Scheduled Caste Department of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, said he had approached the Chennai police in November 2024 seeking action against the industrialist and his associate. He said no action followed.
It is against this backdrop that the two officers have been shifted to Vacancy Reserve, according to the order.
