APSP Sub-Inspector injured in gunshot at Dumbriguda police station in ASR district

An Armed Reserve Sub-Inspector of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) was found with a gunshot injury at the Dumbriguda police station in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district on Monday, September 14, 2026. Investigators are looking into the circumstances of the incident, including whether he shot himself.

Station staff were attending special prayers for Vinayaka Chavithi when they heard the sound of a shot, sources said. They went to the spot and found the Sub-Inspector, identified as Satyanarayana, injured.

He was first taken to the Area Hospital at Araku Valley. As his condition was serious, he was referred to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Sources said the Sub-Inspector had sent a message to a senior police officer shortly before the incident, referring to problems he was facing in his personal life. The senior officer is understood to have replied asking him not to take any hasty decision, and assured him that he would speak to his family and help resolve the matter. The Sub-Inspector hurt himself shortly after sending the message.
