Assam Cabinet Clears Rs 600-Crore Proton Beam Therapy Centre
Assam Cabinet approves a Rs 600-crore Proton Beam Therapy facility for cancer care, alongside a wider infrastructure spending plan.
The Assam Cabinet has given its approval for the establishment of a Proton Beam Therapy facility, a specialised form of cancer treatment, at a cost of Rs 600 crore. This decision is part of a broader capital expenditure strategy aimed at strengthening key infrastructure sectors across the state.
The government's investment plan covers healthcare, education, roads, power, housing, and industrial infrastructure. Funding for these initiatives will be drawn from the state's own resources, borrowings from NABARD, and various schemes of the Central government.
In the health sector, the focus is on upgrading primary healthcare facilities and expanding access to advanced medical treatments. The proposed Proton Beam Therapy centre is expected to significantly enhance the state's capacity to treat cancer patients with a more targeted form of radiation therapy.
Beyond healthcare, the Cabinet has cleared proposals related to school infrastructure and anganwadi centres. Fresh investments are also planned for road connectivity and the power sector. Additionally, the government has approved the creation of facilities aimed at supporting women, including dedicated markets and hostels.
Addressing a recurring concern, the government has proposed strengthening embankments at vulnerable locations to improve flood protection. Assam has experienced repeated monsoon flooding, which has caused damage to homes, roads, farmland, and other infrastructure in several districts.
The plan also includes improvements to industrial infrastructure, with the aim of creating a more supportive environment for businesses and attracting fresh investment to the state.
