Man Arrested in Assam for Stabbing Girlfriend to Death in Rangia Hotel Room

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Assam's Kamrup Rural district for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death with a pair of scissors inside a hotel room near Rangia railway station, police said on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Malini Guriya, 23, a resident of Hugrajuli in Sonitpur district. The accused, Abhijit Kindo, is from Udalguri district.

According to police, Guriya arrived in Rangia from Chennai late on Saturday night along with two other women, and Kindo met them at the railway station. The two then checked into a hotel near the station. While Kindo had booked a separate room for himself, he spent the night in Guriya's room, the police said, citing her friends.

Her body was found with stab injuries in the room on Sunday morning. Kindo was detained from the same room and later arrested after a murder case was registered against him.

Police said the accused used scissors and a tester to assault the woman. A forensics team from Guwahati visited the hotel to collect evidence, and the body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination. The victim's family has been informed.

A railway inspector at Rangia alerted the police in the early hours of the morning, following which a team reached the hotel. Kindo was taken to a government hospital for medical support as he had sustained several injuries in an apparent suicide attempt after the killing.

While in custody, Kindo told reporters that he had planned the murder before meeting Guriya, alleging that she used to talk to other men. "She was cheating, she was talking to others, and I had planned the murder even before she arrived," he said, admitting to having killed her with scissors. He did not comment on the suicide attempt.

Sources said that in the morning, Kindo called Guriya's friends and told them he had killed her and would take his own life as well.

Police sources said the exact motive behind the murder has not yet been established, and further investigation is underway.
