Assam Cop Kills Two Colleagues at Border Outpost in Kamrup

A police constable in Assam allegedly shot dead two colleagues at a border outpost in Kamrup district early Thursday.

Two police personnel were killed in a shooting incident at a police outpost along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Assam's Kamrup district in the early hours of Thursday. The accused is a fellow policeman, identified as Constable Chiranjib Choudhury, attached to the 29th Assam Police Battalion.

The incident occurred between 4 am and 5 am at the Gamerimura Police Outpost under Boko Police Station. The victims were identified as Havildar Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora, who was serving as the officer-in-charge of the outpost. Both sustained gunshot injuries from an AK-type service rifle and died on the spot.

The motive behind the shooting is not yet known, officials said. The firing triggered panic in the area. Senior police officials reached the spot and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Ali was a resident of Sarboga, while Bora hailed from Changshari in Kamrup district. Choudhury is a resident of Dhubri district. The incident has sent shockwaves through Boko and adjoining areas along the border. Further details are awaited.
