Assam Professor and Husband Among Indians Missing in Nepal Floods

Families in Assam are anxiously waiting for news from Nepal after several residents from the state were reported missing in the wake of devastating floods there. The Assam government has released a list of people from the state who remain unaccounted for, which includes former university professor Deepali Sarkar and her husband, Manash Ghosh.

Sarkar, a retired faculty member from Guwahati, had travelled to Nepal with a tourist group of about 30 people. Her former colleague, Rita Choudhury, a retired mathematics professor, said she learned that the group had gone to Kathmandu through a travel agency. Choudhury noted that the group was last contacted around 8:30 pm, but after 10:30 pm there was no further communication.

Ghosh, who works in Kolkata, regularly travelled to Guwahati. The couple has a daughter, a doctor currently in Delhi for further training. Choudhury expressed the difficulty of the wait, as communication from the affected areas remains challenging.

Rescue teams in Nepal are continuing efforts to locate those still missing, while families and friends hope for updates from authorities. The Assam government has not yet provided further details on the status of the missing residents.
