Eight Assam Residents Missing in Nepal Floods Located, Return Underway
Eight people from Assam missing after Nepal floods have been traced. The state government is coordinating their return and continuing the search for others.
Eight residents of Assam who were reported missing following the recent flash floods in Nepal have been traced, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The state government established contact with the group, which includes Pankaj Barman and seven others, on Saturday evening.
Speaking on Sunday, Sarma confirmed that arrangements are being made to bring the group back to Assam. "Yesterday evening, we have been able to establish contact with eight people, Pankaj Barman and seven others. We are bringing them back to Assam today," he said.
The Chief Minister indicated that the search for additional missing persons is ongoing. He noted that the official list of missing individuals is likely incomplete, as many people from Assam working in Nepal do not register their details with the state government. This lack of registration makes it challenging to compile an accurate list of those potentially affected.
Sarma stated that the government is in touch with authorities in Nepal and the Ministry of External Affairs to expedite the identification of missing persons and facilitate the return of those who have been rescued. The administration is working to ensure all affected individuals receive the necessary assistance.
