Assam Ties Up With Six Firms, IIT Madras to Introduce AI in Schools
Assam signed MoUs with six companies and IIT Madras to pilot AI platforms in 50 schools, aiding teaching and learning.
The Assam government has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six companies and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the state's education system.
The collaboration will see AI-based platforms introduced in select schools. An AI tool developed by IIT Madras is slated for a pilot run in 50 schools across the state. A separate AI platform will be used to assist students in learning languages and mathematics.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that the initiative aims to bolster students' creativity and overall skills while enabling teachers to leverage technology more effectively in classrooms. He added that the government would prioritize capacity building to ensure teachers are trained to use AI platforms for lesson planning and instruction.
Pegu also indicated that technology would play a larger role in the examination system, with more tests being conducted online or via virtual platforms where feasible, while physical exams would continue where necessary.
On the financial front, the minister said the participating companies would bear the major expenses, with the state government providing professional and logistical support. The move is part of Assam's broader efforts to incorporate emerging technologies and expand access to digital learning tools.
