Eight Assam Workers Return Home After Nepal Flood Rescue, Five Still Missing

Eight Assamese workers who were trapped in the devastating Nepal floods have been safely brought back to Assam, while the fate of five others from the state remains unknown.

The workers were rescued from the Nepal border area near Bagdogra in North Bengal and were escorted back by Assam Police. They arrived in Dhurbi, Assam, on Sunday night before departing for their respective homes on Monday.

The rescued individuals have been identified as Pankaj Barman, Gopal Chand Debnath, Gautam Das, Samar Bezbaruah, Sarvishan Marak, Saneswar Narzary, Silva Marak, and Elipson Sangma.

A total of 13 workers from various Assam districts, including Nagaon, Nalbari, and Karbi Anglong, were employed at a power grid company in Nepal when the disaster struck. A sudden surge of floodwater, reportedly rising to nearly 60 feet, caused catastrophic conditions in the area. The workers managed to survive by climbing to higher ground in the mountains.

While eight have been accounted for, five workers from the state remain missing. The floods in Nepal have claimed over 900 lives, and rescue operations are still underway as thousands remain unaccounted for across the country.
