Six Assam Youths Missing in Nepal Floods, CM Sarma Confirms
Six youths from Assam are missing after catastrophic floods in Nepal, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed; families seek government help.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that six youths from the state are missing in the wake of the devastating floods in Nepal. Speaking to reporters, he noted that the figure could change as more information becomes available.
Among the missing are Rituparna Brahma (24) and Mantri Basumatary (28), both from Doidak village under Langhin in Karbi Anglong district. They had travelled to Nepal about two weeks ago for work and were employed with a hydroelectric project near the Trishuli River. Their families have been unable to contact them since the floods struck on August 26, with their phones reportedly switched off.
Another missing person has been identified as Shatadal Nath, a resident of Hindu Block village in Doboka, Hojai district.
A colleague of Brahma and Basumatary, Someswar Narzary (37), survived the disaster and informed his family of the situation over the phone.
Families of the missing have filed complaints at Dokmoka Police Station and have appealed to the Government of India, the Assam government, and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to help locate the youths.
The Assam government has also activated helpline numbers for those seeking assistance or information about people from the state stranded in Nepal.
