Asur Season 3 Goes Into Production, Gaurav Shukla Steps In as Director

Shooting for Asur Season 3 has begun in Mumbai, with Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti returning. Creator Gaurav Shukla makes his directorial debut.

Production on the third season of the popular streaming series Asur has officially commenced in Mumbai. The team began filming on August 30, with a schedule that will take the cast and crew across multiple cities over the next three months. The makers are targeting a mid-2027 premiere on JioHotstar.

Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti are back in their acclaimed roles as forensic experts Dhananjay Rajput and Nikhil Nair. They are joined by returning cast members Ridhi Dogra, Anupriya Goenka, and Vishesh Bansal. The new season also brings fresh faces to the franchise, with Ahsaas Channa and Shweta Basu Prasad taking on pivotal roles.

The biggest change comes behind the camera. Oni Sen, who directed the first two seasons, will not be returning. Instead, the show's creator and lead writer, Gaurav Shukla, will make his directorial debut with the season. He will co-direct with Shwetabh Varma, an ad filmmaker known for his stylised work.

Asur follows a team of forensic experts locked in a deadly game with a serial killer who believes he is an incarnation of the mythological demon Kali. The series has been praised for blending mythology with psychological suspense. The third season arrives nearly three years after the second season premiered in 2023 to widespread acclaim. Shukla is said to have crafted a story that expands the franchise's scale and narrative ambition, promising darker themes and deeper explorations of Indian mythology while retaining the show's core DNA.
