Avengers Endgame: Encore bookings open in India as Infinity Vision screens debut

Advance booking for Avengers Endgame: Encore opened in India on September 11, two weeks ahead of its release, with the first set of Infinity Vision-certified screens in the country also becoming visible to audiences.

Infinity Vision is a certification for Premium Large Format (PLF) auditoriums launched by Disney earlier this year. Screens qualify only if they meet specified standards covering screen size, projection quality, brightness and sound. Avengers Endgame: Encore will be among the first films to run on these screens, ahead of Avengers: Doomsday in December.

Among the certified cinemas is PVR C&B Square, also known as PVR Sangam, in Chakala, Andheri East, Mumbai, which will host two shows, at 7:15 pm and 11:00 pm. PVR Promenade in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, has shows at the same timings. Cinepolis Lake Mall in Kolkata will run three shows, at 9:00 am, 4:20 pm and 11:50 pm.

Trade sources indicate that more cinemas are expected to receive the certification, not only in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata but also in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Chennai, Coimbatore and other cities.

Occupancy on IMAX and Infinity Vision screens is expected to be strong. While regular screens will carry new footage and a unique opening, the new post-credits scene tied directly to Avengers: Doomsday will be exclusive to IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified screens. Ticket prices have been kept somewhat higher, given the film's expected box-office performance.

The re-release is drawing considerable attention despite not being a fresh title, helped in part by the recent blockbuster run of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has renewed interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
