BJP Will Make Hyderabad Liberation Day a State Function, Says Bandi Sanjay
Bandi Sanjay Kumar says Hyderabad Liberation Day will be a State function once the BJP is in power, and accuses the Congress and BRS of ignoring the struggle's history.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has said that Hyderabad Liberation Day will be observed as a State function across Telangana once the BJP comes to power in the State, and that the history of the liberation struggle will be included in school textbooks.
Speaking to reporters in Karimnagar, he urged people to turn out in large numbers for the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations being organised by the Central government at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on September 17.
Mr. Sanjay alleged that both the ruling Congress and the main opposition BRS do not officially mark the occasion for fear of the Majlis party, and accused the two parties of failing to acknowledge the sacrifices made during the Telangana Liberation Struggle. He described the Congress and the BRS as "two sides of the same coin" and alleged that they were wasting the time of the Legislative Assembly.
The Union Minister also alleged that the State government was selling government lands to meet its financial commitments, and warned that Telangana could face a situation similar to those in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Separately, Mr. Sanjay said a month-long "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" would begin on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and his 25 years in public life. The programme includes blood donation camps and the 'Ashirwada Deepam' event on September 17, followed by elocution, drawing and other competitions through the month.
