
Mumbai: 8-Year-Old Boy Run Over by Car in Bandra, Woman Driver Arrested
An 8-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a car in Bandra; the woman driver, allegedly on a phone call, has been arrested.
An eight-year-old boy died after being struck by a speeding car in Mumbai's Bandra locality on Sunday afternoon. The driver, a 45-year-old woman, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The child, identified as Ansh Ravindra Gupta, was crossing John Baptist Road, opposite Jijamata Garden, when the vehicle hit him. Police said the driver, Megha Rawal, a Bandra resident, was allegedly distracted while speaking on her mobile phone at the time of the accident.
According to a police official, Rawal was driving her Innova Crysta recklessly at excessive speed and knocked the boy down before running the vehicle over him. The child sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A case has been registered against Rawal under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving on a public way, and an act endangering life or personal safety of others. She also faces charges under the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, police added.
